Learning to nose pivot

So ive been working on learning to nose pivot and im not progressing as fast as i would like. Anybody have any tips/tricks for this nifty little maneuver? It would be a very useful skill to have for some of the the trails around here. Thanks in advance.

Great vid. I have no useful advice (just wanted to comment on the video), because I can only do it on my rigid and my BMX, and I do it differently on both bikes, so I have no idea which one I'm doing it right on (if either...on the rigid I grab the front brake and shift weight forward, and on the BMX I put the pedals vertical and hamstring curl the back of the bike up since there is no front brake...I think I probably shift weight forward here too, but tbh, I don't think about it much).

I picked it up pretty easy. I just got my stoppies down REALLY good. Then got good at rocking from stoppie back to stationary manual, back to stoppie again, as many times as I could handle. All the while also working on stoppies at speed.

Then that's when I started trying nose pivots. Once your rear wheel comes up, just push hard on your inside grip and stay over the bike.

Front brake, unweight rear wheel, swing hips. then practice practice practice......

Practice stoppies on level ground until you have good braking control then work from there. Use the same technique to "sidewind" your way up staircases for practice. Grab some rear brake and lift the front wheel up to the next stair then grab some front brake and hop the rear wheel up even. Then use the same technique reversed by grabbing some front brake and lifting the rear wheel up to the next stair then grab some rear brake and then pull the front wheel up even. If you get that down you should have no problem with simple tailwhips. Its all about practice.....

AWESOME vid, great in control riding. I would need a gallon of bactine, gauze and duct tape to do that. Thanks for sharing, i need that skill. Must be really old though. He seems to be riding a 26" with platform pedals.

^^^ Or he's just old school... He's wearing hiking boots it looks like. I don't think Capri's for dudes were the in thing a couple years ago. 8-)

your hips are an important part. jut your hip in the direction you want your rear wheel to go, when you hit your brake, your body will swing the bike in that direction.

Hiking boots and manpris were never in. Impact mids, shorts, and kneepads, on the other hand, never go out of style!
