I run platforms on one of my roadbikes all winter so I can go fast and wear boots. Come April it's back to clips and straps.

BTW, clips and straps = NBT (next big thing) ;)

Big Gulp for electrolytes bro.

^^ I prefer the PowerGrips/Odyssey Triple Traps combo for road biking :D.

Similarly, I've found people in regular clothes to be much more friendly and talkative than people in the hardcore biking gear, speaking generally.

And I don't know why some of you are getting so offended about the reduced interest in fixed-foot riding. The OP didn't mean "dying" as in nobody should use them anymore, just "dying" as in fading in popularity among the general population of offroad riders.

I also think there are way too many different styles of riding for anyone to say one is better than the other for even most purposes.

I hear too much of the devil's weed causes that sort of memory issue.

BTW, I'm not sure putting more clothes on is the same as taking them off and making them tighter!

thanks.

I'm annoyed by animosity between cycling subcultures. It reeks of ignorance and inexperience of said discipline.

I grew up riding my bmx on djs, spend a fair amount of time riding fixed or mtb but primarily race and train on the road. Maybe it's just me, but all cycling i've tried is cool.

TMonk 01-23-12 10:09 PM

clipless only for me these days. I've hit my head too many times to be doing djs or dh imo.

Daspydyr 01-23-12 10:41 PM

Lindenwood did point to the real intent of my post. Clipless was brought out and even some here seem to think it the end all cure of power transfer and stability. It works for some, not all. I personally think it has lost a bit of its shine. OTOH, I'll put a pair of Eggbeaters on the Roadie for a couple of centuries this spring.

I got a pair of toeclips in the 70s on my Schwinn Varsity and just thought they were the schizz. Now I'm kinda liking the platforms I use and haven't fallen in, well since April. I'm a pragmatic person, its working for me.

As for what I wear, this time of year I look like a hockey goalie when I'm all kitted up in my stuff.

As for picking on Purist Roadies, CMON! Some, (not all) of those weanies need someone to help ground them in reality. I think that some of them wear eye shadow that matches their bar tape, and those are the guys!

samburger 01-23-12 10:51 PM

I ride platforms because they're better than clipless.

I feel a real connection with the trail when I roll wood pedals. It's a Zen thing.

you should give it a try for a season it's the bees knees.

eye shadow and leg shaving is the best part ofc. it increases your avg speed more than you might think, but only during racing.

I'm glad that I've been enlightened. If you wear lycra and use clipless, you are an unfriendly jerk on the trail.

On another note, I saw some mountain bike helmets on sale. Does this mean the helmet fad is dying out for mountain bikers?

Daspydyr 01-24-12 12:03 PM

^^^JY, you might change the wine in the bong, I think its gone bad.

Those guys on the trail with helmets? Mostly ********.

Full finger gloves? Posers!

kenhill3 01-24-12 12:35 PM

I use gloves with 2 half fingers. I go both ways.

Is that really what you're choosing to take from this whole discussion?

TMonk 01-24-12 12:52 PM

i think ur sarcasm detector needs calibration

TMonk 01-24-12 12:53 PM

oh, and if you see me out on the trail, I will be riding clipless, with lycra on and shaved legs.

i don't wave to anyone. heck, I can't even remember the last time I smiled on a bike.

OH, I see you live in California. They tax you every time you flush the toilet, don't they? So riding off road has two benefits. :thumb:

I am insecure and lack skills thus the platforms. I smile because the need the affirmation when others smile back. Actually I guess that makes me selfish, DANG!:notamused:

junkyard's posts always seem to be followed by that whoosh of fresh butthurt.

Hah! That whoosh was my eye-roll ;) .

And don't forget the vast majority of fits thrown in this thread have been by people defending their choice to ride clipless.
