I just had a brainstorm. I'll recruit a handful of Fat Tire Ruffians, we will lay in wait @ a mile from the finish, then swoop in from an alleyway and steal all the goodie bags!

For shorter rides (2-3 hrs) I try to eat a few hours before hand, and only have a muesli bar for emergencies in the pack. For longer rides I usually take some salty, spicy bite sized salamis, muesli bars, and anything laying around (pizza, apples, cheese, peanut butter, or like last time I had some apple pie wrapped up). I've never really felt the need for any sort of energy product. For me pre- and between ride nutrition is more important...I basically just eat a ton of food with a good balance of vegetables and fruit.

payday and a redbull.
also, Kate's bars are pretty damn tasty and all natural and healthy and such. https://katesrealfood.com/
or, you can make your own snack. slice of bread, peanut butter, sliced banana, and honey, folded over, in tin foil. i do this often.
or a bag of nuts and figs and gorp.
as stated, beer is not just good as a post ride snack, but a during ride snack as well.

Somewhat off topic, but I find chocolate milk unbeatable for a mid ride energy boost. I feel it is absorbed much quicker than juice drinks and doesn't leave that horrible sicky citrus taste after a hard core grind up some unspeakable incline.
As said before, peanut butter is gooood.

Nature Valley bars were my staple for years until I came across a video for homemade energy bars and realized I could alter the ingredients to my liking -- well, duh, huh? Needless to say, I have been making variations of these ...

Just started steering myself away from energy bars. Started thinking about the cost and realized IMHO they're not worth it.

Good ol' PBJ sammiches work for me most of the time. Sometimes I'll mix it up:
-cinnamon raisin bread, peanut butter, bacon, honey
-peanut butter, banana, honey
-nutella, cream cheese, banana, almonds rolled up in a wheat tortilla
apples, pears, banana, nuts

Philadelphia actually makes a milka brand chocolate cream cheese spread here..I have been meaning to try it, but it has to be refrigerated and probably isn't much better than nutella.

I know peanut butter and honey sandwiches should be a great food for riding. I can't bring myself to eat them around riding time now. I ate one prior to riding this fall and haven't felt that sick since eating a pile of vermicelli before a ride.
The best things I've found for sitting well on my stomach:
Pre-ride: Roasted red pepper humus on a tortilla; add in cheese if need be. A pickle or two and a few fig newtons can supplement.
During ride: Fig newtons.
Post ride: I seldom feel bad about eating anything shortly after a ride. Usually, there is something pickled (beans, cucumbers, squash, etc.). After that, it's all fair game.
