Help!!!!!!!!! Trek 4500 Question!
I just bought my wife a Trek 4500 WSD for christmas. On Treks site it says that the front derailleur is
a Shimano Alivia. The one that is on her bike is a Shimano Acera. Everything els on the bike seems to be ok. Should I take this back or will this part be ok. Thanks |
The parts are equivelent. Don't worry about it

LIES MAELSTROM! On the Shimano hierarchy, Alivio > Acera!
Demand compensation! (but seriously there isn't much difference but that is odd. Usually LBS's upgrade parts that are nearly interchangeable.) |
...I don't think so. Yeah thats shimanos ranking but they are both the lowest end. You are talking about a 1$ american difference. They might even swap for free.
|
It's the front derailleur, to boot. I doubt most people would notice the difference in the shifting of the two. I doubt there even is any for that matter. I wouldn't worry about it. :)
|
I can't feel the diff between alivo and xt ... haha
|
If it were the rear der. i would say to complain. But since it is the front, i wouldn't sweat it. I would still bring it up to the LBS. Something isn't right.
|
Shimano makes a really lowend line, the ones they put on walmart bikes. My mom has one.. it doesn't shift nearly as well as my Acera rear derrailuer. As to front, do any of them work properly? :P

K thanks. And isn't this a personal attack? Seems like a direct comment at me? I'm going to go cry. (Btw, in case you missed it, it was sarcasm in the brackets.) P.S. Thanks EDIT: just so you're fully clear, I was joking about maelstrom lying. Notice the "but seriously" part indicating sarcasm. And than notice the "nearly interchangeable" which was agreeing with maelstrom. Also notice the full caps used to joke about maelstrom's post. Btw, I'm going to post in red from now on because I'm so cool. |
Everything els on the bike is Deore and I am woundering why they would through an Acera Part on there out of no where.
|
Becuase it is super cheap and the differences are negligable.

I went to two different bike shops and seen on there 4500's an Acera front der. I guess Trek needs to update there website.
