Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

One of the few books I read before the movie. Both ruled it.

I personally wouldn't listen to music whilst riding. I too also enjoy the tranquil around me riding. If I were riding though with music, I'd definitely put on some old AFI, Op Ivy, Pennywise, Einherjer (Finnsh metal) and Summoning (would be perfect for overlooking the landscape resting) to get the ball rolling

I was out on my fixed gear the other day and was having fun with Pandora. This cut came on and I went into superhuman mode. Forreals.

I like the sound of the wind and tyres on the road. I don't need music to ride with. But, if I did I suspect I'd load up my MP3 player with Pink Floyd's "pulse" as a start. I'd follow it with a bunch of classic queen albums and then some Irish music. I also think that the music that has come out since 1990 has been less than stellar. I must be getting old.

Since my player is plugged in & charging, let's see what I currently have in there:
Negazione - 'Lo Spirito Continua'
Total Fury - '13 Songs'
Double Negative - 'Daydream Nation'
AC4 - 'AC4'
OFF! - 'First 4 EPs'
Ufomammut - 'Godlike Snake'
G. Love & Special Sauce - assorted mix of my favorite jams
Babar Luck - 'Frankenstanee'
Unsane - 'Wreck'
I listen sometimes on long boring climbs, but mostly when I'm pounding pavement - running errands or going places (like tomorrow nite, when Peelander-Z is in town).
Silence on the downhills, so I can hear when flats happen, and when riding in groups.

Being somewhat of a geek, I had some pretty nerdy stuff on my ipod, like movie soundtracks. Sometimes they convey a sense of urgency, or like you're being chased by a T-rex...

Still kicking.
An additional one right now is Sabotage- Beastie Boys

No music until post ride, I need to know when people cuss me for clogging the trail. Then I knock em down.
Post ride, in the hot tub with a beer, cigar and nachos:
Santana
Eric Clapton
Iron Butterfly
Led Zep
Cream (redundant, I know)
Huey Lewis
Doobie Brothers (goes with the MTB thing)
QUEEN (Bicycle, hello)
Now that is music!

I'd pedal to all that -- gettin' my trail romp on with "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" (long version) would be EPIC!

Sadly, now being on the other side of the country means it's a bit tough for me to see them... They get up into WA and down into CA, but that's about as far as they go. Haven't been to a show in a few years, but they never disappoint.
The only other folks I've like better Live were Sleater-Kinney with the Black Keys a few years ago in Prividence, RI. and Queensryche on the operation Mindcrime tour waaaaaay back in 90-91. Melted. My. Brain.
