music for riding
Im want to update my mp3 player with some new music. So I'm wondering what are some of the bands you listion to when you ride.
Please: Rock music, Heavy Metal, etc. etc. |
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
ACDC - Back In Black Iron Maiden - Powerslave Slayer - Reign in Blood Red Fang - Murder in the Mountains |
mostly punk and metal, stuff you would hear back when the warped tour was cool. i also have Queen, Sisters of Mercy, Deadmau5, and some other stuff that isn't punk or metal but still gets me stoked to ride.
Bands i like are: Marylin Manson Avoid one thing Avail Social Distortion Guns n Roses Iron Maiden just to list a few |
NOFX
Bad Religion Bill Monroe |
I dunno if you'd like an entire KC album, but 21st Century Schizoid Man from the USA album might be heavy enough for ya.
|
I'm old and have enough trouble staying focused on the trail, much less try to listen to music and ride at the same time.
Besides, if I listened to Montovani I'm liable to fall asleep while riding through a hair pin turn and that would be real messy:D |
How heavy do ya wanna get? I love Excoriate. Might be to deathmetal for tender ears.
|
This one's not heavy but crucial trail tunes if you ask me:
|
|
i ride to get away from excessive noise and general loudness. Just the sound of my tires breaking sticks is enough for me. I kind of feel like listening to your ipod while riding could pose safety issues with being able to hear things/people that may be around you.

^ What he said. And not only would I never listen to music while biking; I even wish bad things upon the other jackasses being overly loud yelling with friends or the really unnecessarily loud freehubs and generally making tons of noise when I'm out trying to enjoy some nature. And if some idiot ever runs into me or close to it because he's too busy jamming to music while riding than hearing his surroundings and paying attention, it'll be hard not to grab the biggest stick I see near the trail and go to town on him. I do often listen to the types of music everyone has mentioned so far on my drive to the trial, though. I do like some good hard, fast music to get me ready to shred some serious gnar. And I feel like good metal can add a lot of energy to a cool video.
To contribute to the music part, though, for some reason I'm partial to White Zombie - Astro-Creep 2000 or Black Dahlia Murder on my way to the trail. But once in a while I like to rock some Cake or Beck for a change of pace. Both best listened to loud and with a sub. Beck Cake |
this song always gets me pumped

On the way to the trail I'm generally listening to Delicate Steve, Cat Empire, Coheed, 311, Rage Against the Machine, Rebelution, Brand New, or the Dubstep station on Pandora. Just depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Maybe I'm just a n00b but I don't feel confortable losing one of my most important senses when mountain biking.
I'd be down to listen to some good pump music if I could listen via speaker rather than headphone, but that's just never going to happen at my trails. This is the video that inspired me to really get into mountain biking, after I was already semi-hooked from my first ride. No songs gets me pumped like this one, & Johnny Law & I listen to it ritually right before we ride every time he comes home. |
Having no car I have to ride out to the trails. I rock my mp3s while grinding out the road miles to the trail head. I keep the tunes on until I get out to country roads. While on the suburban roads, the 4-lane road is just a constant stream of traffic creating white noise so the tunes don't make me miss anything. Get out into the sticks and it's two-lane blacktop full of locals that run blind corners @ 50mph. Lotta beercans on the shoulder too. So I kill the tunes so I can hear a car coming. Usually hear 'em about a 1/4 mile away unless it's windy, then shorter lead time. Some spots on the road you really wanna get off the road when they come up on ya.
I don't run tunes on the trails very much, just occasionally on long dirtroad grinds I press play to help keep momentum. Cut tunes and take a break at top of hill. Take a sip of water and roll out with only the sound of wind. |

Add: Wolfmother The Offspring Clutch Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition Edit - - Pretty sure the big dude in the blue plaid and cap is gastro . |
No tunes while riding. Like some others I prefer sounds of the bike, the trail, breathing, natural environment.
I get plenty of music at other times. Miles, Mozart, Monroe. |

|
+Muse, Incubus

|
Porcupine Tree is good riding music, but most of the time I prefer nothing.
|
No music until post ride, I need to know when people cuss me for clogging the trail. Then I knock em down.
Post ride, in the hot tub with a beer, cigar and nachos: Santana Eric Clapton Iron Butterfly Led Zep Cream (redundant, I know) Huey Lewis Doobie Brothers (goes with the MTB thing) QUEEN (Bicycle, hello) Now that is music! |
