I am about to start racing mountain cross in a town near me, I am thinking about buying a new set of forks, possbily Rock Shox Boxxers (just the standard) for my bike. Is this worth it or should i buy a different set?

yeah, im doing mountain cross and hopefully getting into full downhill whe i find a coser track than the 10 and a half hour drive to thredbo. So i want a good all round fork for mountaincross, downhill and the occasional street adn dirt jumps. and the boxxers im looking at are the Rock Shox Boxxers Race model.

Thats how I know it to. Boxxer is way overkill for a mountain cross course and might even slow you down as it is super plush and long travel

Funny, I call it 4x too. Guess living in a boarder town does that considering thats where the idea came from.

yeah, i call it 4x but wasnt too sure here, though down the road from the 4x track there is a DH course aswell, so im thinking of having a shock that i can use for both. though if you say boxxers wouldnt fiit for the 4x part, should i look at a fork that i can do both on, any suggestions?

Dang...thats gonna be tough. Too very different requirements. Long travel single crown will be ok for both. Like the 66 for example.

Does the 66 have travel adjust? If so that might be the ticket.

no adjustable travel on the Marzocchi 66RC or VF.. The RC comes in either 150mm or 170mm. Another option might be the Rock Shox Pike SL. It looks like a pretty decent fork for this use. Unlike the Marzocchi, it has adjustable travel (95-140mm). Obviously not quite as much travel as the 66, so it may not be quite as good for DH. Both appear to be pretty good forks, though. I've not heard anyone say anything either positive or negative about the Pike. I've generally heard good things about Marzocchi's FR forks.

You are not going to find a fork good for both. Such a fork would either not have a good amount of travel for DH, or weigh too much. Just save up a bit more money and buy two forks. Boxxer race is onsale for $450 USD, and you could pick up a marz DJ or Manitou Stance.
