It used to be dead and it looks like it still is. Is everyone over at MTBR and Pinkbike?

Or has facebook rendered forums and blogs useless.

we should all be out riding our bikes anyway.

Maybe it's just seasonal? I don't drop in here often. I like the cyclocross forum, but for nine months out of the year it's pretty much a trickle of questions from commuters having problems with their cantilever brakes. It's hopping in the fall though. I wondered if this forum is like that in the cooler months. Theoretically, it should be picking up about now if that were so, but I just answered a question about 26" slick tires that had very little to do with mountain biking. So maybe either dead or seriously ill.

It's not what it was five years ago to be sure. It seems to be a lot of commuters-on-mountain-bikes, newly-crossed-over roadies and a tedious barrage of "what bike should I buy?" threads. I wouldn't pronounce it dead but its character has changed so much I wouldn't doubt that a lot of past regulars have gotten bored and moved on.

All the same, there has been a good crop of newer members/posters who have done their part to keep things lively and interesting despite.

This, along with everything else in life, is what you make it. I, for one, make this place suck.

Let me help out here a bit! Am I the only one that thinks Shimano XT's rear derailer is a PITA. Constantly needs adjusting, cables break, and adjusting is a nasa project. And everything on the trail seems drawn to it, while it's supposed to be more tucked away. Or am I just a raatard? Uh oh.

My contribution.

I enjoy the forum & try to keep a nice balance between entertaining & useful. Mostly I just absorb useful information & poke fun at people.

Maybe I need to branch out though, I haven't really given any other biking forums a shot. I'm in an awkward stage between total n00bness/needing to ask questions on a daily basis, & being knowledgable enough to actually help others. So I really don't have much to provide except sarcasm & "backhanded second guessing"

For some reason the people around here tolerate it so I stick around.

I'm a foster roadie. I've been using my mtb about 4x a week because my road frame is getting fixed. I had a mounting bracket question yesterday and I got the help I needed. I don't have any interesting stories to share cause my rides are boring. Slow climbing combined with slow down hills lead to nothing interesting to be shared. I'm riding tomorrow for the first time with my new Reba fork. If I'm blown away by the ride quality compared to my old axel I might start a thread and share. If I'm not I'll just keep it to myself.

I'd post more but atm Ohio is having jekyll/hyde weather. It's either gorgeous and sunny outside or pouring buckets of rain, and usually it varies by the day. So the result is trails that haven't really had any sort of chance to dry out, and I won't ride until they do. Sucks, but what can you do.

I try to peak in here every so often, but MTBR is my go-to place for mountain-biking discussion.

Pinkbike has a very strange vibe that frankly I don't understand. The good people of MTBR, otoh, contribute greatly to my enjoyment of the sport.

Did not mean to step in it here. I usually look in every day. I spotted this thread, didn't I? But I also spend time on MTBR. No reason not to be in both forums.

Yes. Some days I am just that dense.

And I work with words, so should not have gotten "peek" and "peak" mixed up. And then I got all piqued about it. Sheesh.
