Suspension for a hardtail hybrid

Dear all,

Perhaps this question belongs in the hybrid forum but Ill post it here since I reckon the people here know all about suspension forks. And I want a new fork. Currently I have a RST Vita with 60 mm of travel. It works somewhat and has a lockout which is really important for me. The bike is a Focus Black Stone, 28 wheels as most other bikes in NL.

The mechanic at my LBS pointed out I cant just put any mountain bike fork on it because it would mess up the geometry, the front end would rise to much. The Rock Shox Reba looked promising before I asked him. I could just replace the fork with a similar cheap fork once it finally breaks but Id really like a decent serviceable fork. What are my options? Do you have any suggestions for a decent serviceable fork with lockout and adjustment options for a hybrid MTB? My budget is in the range of the Reba, perhaps a bit more as my requirement are bit less mainstream.

TY

A Google search for sr suntour axon gave lots of options, all for 26 wheels MTB though. Are there forks for 28-29 wheels that fit on a hybrid? Perhaps you could elaborate a bit on the specific model?

It has been my experience that putting a mountain fork on a hybrid changes the bike's geometry for the better. Far from "messing up" the geometry, slackening a hybrid by that little amount makes it a more trail-worthy mount - - as long as you don't get carried away.

I put a 100mm Rockshox Jett (admitedly a low-grade fork) on my wife's Sopecialized Expedition and it transformed what was essentially old-skool 80s-rigid-mountain-bike geometry into a more trailable machine. She doesn't do any hardcore singletrack with it but she appreciates the extra bit of cush when she does go off-road.

I think this SR Suntour NRX fork would work, but cannot comment on the quality/performance:

At the moment I have my handle bar raised a bit to give me a more comfortable ride. Perhaps there is some leeway there. Ive taken some pictures in my ally way in the rain to give you an impression of my bike. I dont have a decent camera, these are the best pictures I can manage. Dminor, do you think this frame can handle a larger/higher fork?

I'm running the Rock Shock Tora spring version. A bit heavy compared to others but very smooth and it can be adjusted from 60mm to about 100mm travel to get things setup right.
