the only time ive ever heard of a frame breaking is a trials bike, and i guess thats just because of them putting alot of force into stopping while going backwards.....ive never actually seen this happen and and i still find it hard to beleive .. and even if that did happen i would think the hub or the calliper would be the first to go either that or the mounts, but not the frame :S

Exactly, I disc in the back is total overkill. The only advantage is wet conditions.

How is it better? Thats why they don't use them on road bikes. The v-brake will lock up a rear wheel with ease. When you lock up a wheel you lose traction and stopping power. All a disc wheel does is lock up easier. The ability of the tire to keep traction can't match the power of the disc. With the added weight it is overkill. If you are riding in muddy conditions than the disc is better.

Not if you can use your brakes properly.

They don't use them on road bikes because disks weigh a lot more then v-brakes.

yea. discs offer more stopping power. and there is an advantage with a closed system rather than a v brake. also you will need to be replacing rims with v brakes. you can get lighter rims with discs, most disc rims are much lighter then their rim models.

and they did put discs on road bikes in red bull road rage. where they needed more stopping power. . .

with the price of some bb7s, i would go with discs.

This thread is over a year old. The reason that road bikes don't have discs is because of weight and overkill. They just don't need the stopping power on the open roads. As for Road Rage, they use mountain bikes. To say that they need more stopping power during Road Rage compared to the TDF is just untrue. They go down some steeper and faster downhils on the Tour.
