As rare as that is. This is one time where there is a clear winner :)

If you do a search through the past threads this is about the ONLY thing that is a clear winner on this entire forum. Save for the fact that we all like bikes.

Avid Ball Bearing Seven with 8" rotors for under $200 or under $150 with 6" rotors. go with avids

mtnbiker66 01-09-05 05:43 PM

Hmmmmmmm, has anyone said Avid?

phantomcow2 01-09-05 06:00 PM

avid is what unites this forum, some people like triple cranks, some like double. Some swear steel, some swear CF. Hard Tail vs suspension, but they are all equipped with avid :D

mtbikerinpa 01-09-05 06:56 PM

(For mech brakes anyway) ;)

Dirtbike 01-09-05 10:45 PM

not one person has mentioned a different brake. doesnt that say something ;)

Mark Lance 01-10-05 04:30 PM

yes, it does say something...im gonna go with just the avid mechanicals, im going to try and get teh 8" rotors...should make a good combination...the regular avids mechancals wiht 8" is about 80-90 bux for one wiht the disc...a good deal

jayson 01-10-05 05:25 PM

Why does everyone here love mechanical discs so much??? do it properly and get some Hope hydros.

Maelstrom 01-10-05 05:30 PM

They don't really, he was asking about mechs. I always recommend hydros if the user asks about the option. I prefer them by far.

jayson 01-10-05 05:36 PM

Which ones do you have on your bike? Have you tried the Avid Juicy 7 Extremes yet? they look ok but ive yet to ride a set.

Maelstrom 01-10-05 05:38 PM

I haven't ridden a set. Equipment is tough to come by in whistler and the price is nuts. So I tend to stick to basics. I have tried hopes and liked them but not the price, I am a hayes user. Good power, good modulation and DANG cheap

I am trying to get a set from a dealer I know in bellingham, the multi pivot might help my left hand get some more power.

Mark Lance 01-10-05 07:22 PM

also, the brakes that i have on my bioke are qmd "quad." yeah, they really suck for disc brakes, and I believe the pads for them are very diffulcult to find in many options also, avid is the solution:)

mindbogger 01-10-05 09:47 PM

Hayes Mech! ...

Oh god i am probably gonna be banned for saying this...

Maelstrom 01-10-05 10:18 PM

You are....

BANNED! :D

snoopz666 01-10-05 10:37 PM

funny story about hayes mechs. one of my buddies just bought a front one because he wanted to start doing sum trials stuff. when he first got it it was rubbing a bit. so he showed his dad and while he was pointing(the wheel was spinning) he looked away and then he got his finger caught in it. 6 stiches later he was back out bikin again. but ya after he got them to stop rubbing hes never had a problem with them. but i would still say buy an avid

Maelstrom 01-10-05 10:40 PM

I did that once...I was adjusting and my finger slipped. Cut the tip off my finger.
