26" Mavic D521 ceramic wheels
Guys,
My bike has Mavic D521 ceramic wheels and they are very light. I've heard they are no longer making it. My current tire size is 26x2.0 What is thinnest road tire and largest off road tire I can put on these wheels? Thanks |
They are no longer made, as the market isn't there any more, they are rim brake rims, and there is very limited demand for them now, as everything is disc.
For the thinest, if you can get them you should be able to go down to a 1.3 slick; Verdestein S-licks @ 1.3 were about the narrowest fast tires made, but have been discontinued for about as long as your rim , whatever you look at this won't be a road tire, as you need to be looking at 700c rims for these, for the largest, that would depend on that the frame can take. |
I'm not clear on this statement.
"they are rim brake rims, and there is very limited demand for them now, as everything is disc." My bike is disc brake and I think I can use any type of 26" wheels as long as the hub is disc brake compatible. I want to use my mountain bike to be able ride in the track and I do not want to buy another road bike for it. So I'm thinking about get a road tire for it. 700c rims are for road bikes if I am not mistaken. |
The following link might show you the specs for the rim.

There is nothing stopping you building a disc wheel with a rim brake rim, it's just that unless you have some older rims, there are very few options for these now. You said you had D521 rims, these are rim brake rims, Mavic model EN521 which is the current equivalent, and this is disc only, Ceramic braking surfaces are not needed on disc rims, and were only for rim brakes. |
