Sub-$100 upgrades.
2 Attachment(s)
I am looking for some low priced up grade ideas, so please voice you opinion. OH.... and heres a picture of my bike pretty stock p.1 with avid front brake and bash ring
get a rear avid...match it up....
another avid would work, or if your not happy with your pedals theres that.
Tires or saddle.
Saddle, grips, tires, tubes, seat post, chain, chain lube, bashguard.
Edit: Cables, one derailluer, headset, stem, handlebars, brake. |
i was thinking about these tires.... anyone have any experence

Seriously, you think you’ll get a straight answer out of this? There are tons you can get for under 100 dollars. better/wider tires maybe??? :)
well, is there anything specific about the bike taht you don't like? that would be a good starting point.
Tires would probably be a good upgrade for <$100. Always good to have nice tires. |
Like forum*rider mentioned, what with the bike do you dislike? If nothing really, then hang onto the cash.
Tires, rear caliper, pedals, headset (if it's toast) Good preventative work would be chain, sprocket and/or chainring, cables and housings. Or save the money to put towards wheelset or a fork. |
thats sounds good, but the point of the thread is to see how many things there are that i could get, and find one that tickles my fancy just right.
Honestly, you can upgrade any single one part for $100 easily. Mind you, you won't be able to go top of the line on any given thing for $100, but you can certainly get something nicer than what you have already. I got 2 new rotors for about $85 not too long ago and I considered that a great upgrade. They howl less and look TONS cooler than the stock avid rotors. www.beyondbikes.com has the "wavy" rotors (stock rotors on the Juicy 7). Since that opinion hasn't been voiced yet, I'll go with that. Get new rotors... :)
Unless your into your single speed set up id get a casset, shifter and a rear derailluer. Check out the SRAM X.7 stuff they're awesome components, very similar to the high end X.0, at a nice price.Figure 45$ for a derailluer, $45 for the shifter, and give or take 20-30$ for a casset. Thats a rough estimate but it puts you at 120$. Again though, if you like the single speed dont bother but its an idea.
..... but you forgot to add like $50-$100 for a chain guide.
does the P.1 even have a derailleur hanger? It looks like it does in the pic but I can't really tell.
Chain guide would be good too but gears would be a higher on the priority list. If you have gears it would make riding differnet terrain easier. I assume you like to DJ but if you ever get into other types of riding it could be deadly without gears. And yea the P1 does have a derailluer hanger, the P1,2,and3 frames are all basically the same.
smaller seat, better tires.
Save and get something even better.
IF your happy with the bits on your bike, save the money for a rainy day and go and buy a better part like a new fork or something
You can get a sweet kickstand or maybe a nice handlebar bell for less than $100. Walmart has flowerbaskets for the front.
Sorry, couldn't help it, bored! |

Sorry, couldn't help it, bored! You are being sarcastic, I hope. I thought you were serious for a second and was about to give you directions to “commuting” forum :D |
Yeah, sorry about that. Sometimes I'm an idiot but not as much of one since I divorced my first wife.
I vote for a saddle...
And how do you ride your bike with the saddle pointed that way! Wow! I can feel it now |
I don’t think he commutes or rides XC on it, thus seat is not as important. It’s there to catch your ass in case one slips off pedals after a jump, ect...
You might want to get one of these bash guards:
http://vpfree.pinkbike.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=81194 I'm most likely getting one.. really cool looking, no? That and another Avid mech would probably be cool. You have a Hayes mech brake for the rear, right? If you sell it, how much do you think for? I think I have disc mounts, maybe I could use it :) |
maybe like $25 usd (negotiable) for the caliper, a hayes lever and the adapter.
Im not sure about a rotor because i dont know if when you buy a brake you get a rotor. |
I'm pretty sure you get rotors with new brakes.
save and get a nice fork. best upgrade for the money. i got my Z1 and i couldnt be happier.
