Best Full Suspension MTB for under $2,000?

..

Dig up another $1000 and you could get a Stumpjumper.... I would.

Depends on the purpose; but for a trail bike under 2K, probably something like the Specialized Camber Comp.

C'mon op help us out. You want info but you didn't give us anything to work with. What is your exact budget? 2000 exactly? 1800? Or can you dig a few hundred bucks more? Where are you located? 2013 specialized models are coming out and there are some killer deals on 2012 models.

Im located in Bermuda, and around 2000$ it all depends. I can save up as much as i need, but considering this is only really my 2nd bike i dont want to buy anything too expensive. it costs a lot to bring bikes in to bermuda (33% duty) plus shipping, so probably a bike around 1400$ would be good. Im only expecting to get a hardtail, but if I can find a reasonably priced fll suspension I might as well.

Here is your bike. :)

Just out of curiosity, where in Bermuda do you live? My mom is from Paget and I have spent a few weeks down there several times back in the '70s and '80s, especially in and around Hamilton. I hung out a lot at the 40 Thieves Club on Front St, and a few other that I have forgotten the names of, and also spent a lot of time on St. David's island and at the White Horse Pub out in St George. I also played a lot of snooker while drinking Guinness and Heinekens at a high-end place we called the National Club, but the most fun I had was hotrodding older Mobylette and Peugeot mopeds, and Evinrude outboard motors.

Where on the island do you ride that a full-suspension bike would be needed?

I definitely agree with mystolenbikes. I love my specialized when I had it but Giant has great bikes for the price. Yukon and Trance are both great! I'll be buying one of them in the future.

The Trance X4 is a worthy suggestion. The Yukon is not... it has a junk fork and a fauxbar suspension. If the OP's budget was limited to $1,000 I would be suggesting a hardtail rather than the Yukon.

The extra money for the Trance is well worth it.

While I agree on paper the Yukon FX is more than the sum of its parts, it's no Trance but it feels like a "mini Trance". If I had slightly worse impulse control I'd have one.

Break out of the mold and go Yeti or Scott! Check REI online for good pricing on Scott and even Marin F/S bikes.

I'd have recommended it in a heartbeat . . . but I can't even get one for under $2K. Closest the OP can come is probably a Santa Cruz Blur LT. SC has some deals on them right now; you can get a base build for $2,599. Sceamin' deal but still not under 2K.

I live in Southampton, and I ride with a group of older guys who have fs bikes, and we ride down a lot of stairs, and also some of the trails are not very well maintained and can be very bumpy. A ht would work for most of what we ride, but I know if I get a ht without looking at the possibilities of getting a fs first, Ill regret it

MTBBDA 08-26-12 06:12 PM

Thanks a lot, the Giants look great
