Dented Moots frame safe enough?
I'm looking at buying a used Moots YBBeat frame. I'm new to mountain biking, but I know Moots from road biking and I know they make great stuff. The top tube has a decent dent, but otherwise the frame is in good shape. And it's a killer deal. Will this dent affect the ride, but more importantly, the safety of this bike? I've attached some photos of the dent.

Yikes! It looks scary!

I wouldnt bother, with the size of that dent, looks more like a bend in thie pic i would be scared to ride it, get a different frame....

I agree, that dent is pretty substantial. Looks like the top tube integrity has definitely been compromised.
Unless the deal is FREE! I'd pass! |
Is that TI or Alum? Can to tube be replaced?
|
Moots are all ti. I know the dent itself cannot be fixed, but I believe it might be possible for Moots to replace the top tube.
|
Actually Moots says it's not worth it price-wise and integrity-wise to replace it. On to find another frame then.... Thanks for all the advice and telling me what I needed to hear.

Actually, they make at least one fully AL frame: the smoothie.
