I finally got to go for a nice long ride on a bike trail today; the weather was warm and dry, and the ground wasn't too bad either.

I rode with a couple who are into biking (mtb, road, unicycling ). I had never ridden the trail before, and I got a really nice first impression of it. The guy rode in front, me in the middle, and the lady in the back (she was on some liquid-only diet for some reason, so she took the short way). We all started out really fast, and David (the guy, obviously) was jumping the curvy singletrack, cheating with his clipless pedals and fully rigid, light bike . There were a few parts I didn't ride (A big drop to transition, with jumps at the bottom, and a sandstone section that was really steep). The downhill was pretty cool, but I didn't have the balls to ride it without brakes. Really fast anyway, and a long section of some 'whoops', that you could probably jump over and flow through, but I just rolled through them without catching much air. A couple times I caught a lot of air, and once I landed on my front wheel on a downhill, and almost went over the bars. Not quite, though. Then we had to pay the price for the killer, *long* downhill section - a series of long, muddy climbs with some flat ground to let you catch your breath a bit. Then some really fast, rocky, swoopy singletrack among some trees, with the occasional jump if you were going fast enough (I was tired after the climb, and didn't carry enough speed, although I did hit a pretty sweet step up after coming down a hill).

It was about 8-9 miles, I think it took a bit over an hour, maybe more. Most importantly, it was FUN

Maybe next time I ride it I'll be up to the drop and jumps, and maybe I'll be able to hit some of the whoops as doubles and flow through the whole thing.

Sounds like you did have fun, Im glad somebody did today... Here in Lincoln Ne its very windy with wind chill of -15 ouch! Thanks for sharing your ride details... cant wait for the thaw out around here... Ride on!

I wanna go do the trail again...clipless had advantages...worst part is you can't put your foot down as quickly.

So the moral of the story is........"if you ride with a lady on a liquid diet, make sure she is in the back." Makes perfect sense to me. (just kidding )

Sounds like a cool trail. I'm hoping to make it out that way sometime-to see the sights, at least. I try to ride at least an hour at a time, but I'm tryin' to lose some weight, too.

Damn, that's cold! I'll ride in below freezing weather, but that's probably a bit much. I find that the ground being frozen actually helps on the horsetrails around here.
