05 Kona Stinky or 05 Specialized Big Hit FSR.
Ok around june/ july im going to have around $2,400. I was thinking about getting a Kona Stinky or a Specialized Big Hit FSR. What one is the better bik for the money? Thanks, help is very appreciated.

Both INCREDIBLE bikes.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd vote for the one that rode better. I'd have to test ride (or borrow a friends) and ride them each. If I didn't have the opportunity and had to give an answer immediately, I'd flip a coin. Both those are THAT good! |
I love the stinky, a friend of mine has one and its just AWESOME. I haven't ridden the specialized so I will say I'm a bit biased towards Kona. You should just ride both and take the one that feels better.

They're both good bikes however, i'm not a great fan of Konas so i would buy the spesh. The kona frame design means they suffer from too much bob in my opinion, the spesh i rode didnt have anythin really negative to report of. At the end of the day though you should test ride them both and decide for yourself, after all it's you who's gonna be spending that amount of money not any of us on here. Enjoy your new ride whichever one you choose. :)

the 05 BigHit DH is 1699 at my lbs. they let me ride it around outside and the suspension is freakin amazing!

you kidding?
Don’t want to steal the thread, but how does it feel riding 2 different size wheels? |
i would say the kona... but as already stated both great bikes

my only worry with having a 24" wheel is that its harder to find tires for it
with 26" there are tires left and right |
bmx crusiers use 24's... your alright.

It's not really that hard getting good tyres for the 24inch rear. I had hardly any problems.
|
Well I posted a new thread about a Brodie 8-Ball I can get for $1,100 and a 03 Big Hit DH that I can get for about $1,400. I might get the o5 Big Hit FSR anyways.

OR you could use the money on upgrades to your haro.
|
I could but I wanna get a good freeride fs. I will still use the Haro it is a good pretty smooth bike for $500. I just want somethign that will hold up for the stuff that I can do, cause I know that the Haro wont hold up to everything that I try.

Ditto on KonaRider's post man.... I ride with two other guys that weigh over 210 lbs., and we all three have bikes just alike, '04 HARO Xtreme's. We've throwed jumps and drops at these bikes, and they keep hollaring for more. I get more air time than my buddies ( I weigh 165) and have fatigued my Sun RhinoLite's on two occasions (hence the Mavic DeeMax purchase). The bike hasn't as much as squeaked.... BMX is tough on a bike frame, and HARO has long been a leader in that category. I honestly don't think I could break my frame, even if I tried....
A hardtail is definitely better at dirt jumping than a F/S IMO, and that Escape you have would be an excellent choice for upgrading, provided you like the bike & the way it feels 2 U.... It's the wheelset you have to worry about man, not the frame.... HARO RuleZ Enjoy! |
I'd choose whatever there is least of in my area. There are lots and i mean LOTS of BigHits here and there are a lor of Stinky's here too. But there are more BigHits so therefore if it was me, i'd go for the stinky. As you can tell, i like to stand out ;)

Well to say the truth Killer B, and Kona you have persuaded me to upgrade my bike, but I'm still going to get a fs bike, I have a chance to get a 8-Ball w/ a shiver for $1,100 or a 03 Big Hit DH for $1,400(if you read my other post youd already know). Going with what Anthonaut said get one which people have less of in my area well, the only people that have fs bikes in my area are my lbs owner that live in the same town as me. So to cut it short I might get the 8-Ball and then upgrade my Haro I already need new wheelsets for it (back is bent horribly) and the front one I just want to match with the back. I'm going to upgrade to fork, so does any one have suggestions what I should do for that?
|
I would still avoid the 01 brodie. Sorry thats very old and it may be touhg to get replacement parts. I don't care about my bike being unique. I am unique enough, I want a bike that either won't break or when it does, parts are easy and cheapish to come by. A *4* year old hucking bike....no thanks.
|
Well I still have'nt made up my mind for good, I still got a little while till I have the money for both of them. So I still got a little bit of time.
|
I'd spend my money on upgrading your haro, the frames on the escapes are seriously strong and you'll have a hard job breaking it, i would do this because im a die hard hardtailer, but at the end of the day, its your choice...
|
Well I'm not sure, maybe I'll upgrade my current bike for now, so what would be a better fork? Cause I doubt the mz comp is all that great for freeriding, and downhill. Any kind of estimate on the price would be good to.
