IRD dual bangers?

My friend wants to buy new mechanical calipers, and we saw an add in a magazine for the IRD dual bangers. Has anyone ever had any experience with them, and do they really give that much more stopping power than regular mechanical disc calipers?

While the principle sounds good, I would have to guess the ammount of people using Avid mechs(which are single action) says something.
Personally, go with Deore 525 hyros. Cheap and effective, a lot less hassle.

Where can you find the Deore 525s? I've never seen them for sale; only stock on bikes.

Thats because they are a OEM product. Tell him to go with the Avids, you really dont need dual action mech's......especially considering the power the Avids give you.

IRD Dual Bangers, have read about them in the mtbing magazines, have never seen one in person, but hear they actually work halfway decently. They are relatively new, so it's natural that not alot of people know of them. From what I read both pads converge onto the rotor, thus the name of dual banger.

Have you tried them; if not then don't bash them, I wouldn't get them, because, what I have works the best for me. The concept that ird has come up with is really intelligent, before I would make a judgement on this case, I'd need to try a set and take it apart to see what makes one tick.

Remember a few years ago, Avid started out the same exact way, and everyone was way too timid to give up their V's or hayes discs, and who knows, in a few years avid could be paying IRD for licensing that design. The new guy always gets bashed because people are too afraid to leave their comfort zone and try something new.

My question: Do these dual bangers work sort of like a slip differential? The one that hits the rotor first doesnt have any power until the other hits it too? They may work quite well because they wont have to push the whole rotor like Avids do.

If enough interest is shown, I'll order one to try and will give a detailed report.

From what I hear they hit the rotor at almost the same exact time.

If they hit at the same time, then it wont work like a differential type of thing. So then the caliper alignment is crucial. I love how hydraulics operate in that the caliper only has to be aligned paralell to the rotor, but can be off center. If these IRD brakes work like that, then they could be an excellent product.

With Avid's set up properly the "pushover" is minimal.

I'm taking a "wait and see approach" to the Dual bangers. I am concerned about them being overly complicated from a mechanical standpoint
