Mountain shoes with a skate look
Ideally I'd love to be able to stick cleats on converse all-stars, but since that's not happening I am wondering what my next best option is. A friend of mine has a pair of SixSixOne's that look great, but the soles have cracked three times on him now. Any ideas?

Oakley makes a pair of skater style shoes with cleats on them. A friend of mine has them so I can't really tell you anything else other than they are oakley and he rides clipless.

I would recommend the SixSixOne Launch shoes. Don't know which ones your buddy has but that has not been my experience with 661 shoes. I'm running Duallys now; but I still use my Launches for everything but racing. I've had them over 4 years and have beat the crap out of them and they're still holding up fine.

The launches are what he has. His experience plus the reviews on mtbr are making me think I should stay away from them. I'll have a look around though.

For the price, I would go with the SixSixOne's. The 5.10's are incredible especially if you're into like freeride, they actually STICK to the pedal. I have the same sole on my rafting sandals as are on the impacts and they stick even to rocks underwater in a current.

one less horse
The Five.tens are very grippy and arguably the best shoe for platform pedals out there. They are not a substitute for clipless shoes and pedals though. Apples and oranges.
