Canondale Rize 4 NOS
 

My LBS has a new old stock Rize 4 originally $2499 for $1499. It would have a lifetime warranty to me as the original purchaser. I think it's a 2010 model they've just not sold yet but I'm not sure of the year. I've seen a few used for sale in the $1200 range so $1499 brand new seems pretty good. Questions:

1. Is this a good deal?

2. What are the thoughts on this bike?

I'm just getting back into riding and this looks like a very good deal compared to paying full price for any sort of 2012/2013 bike or buying a used bike like this for $1200 instead of brand new for $1499.

So, all thoughts/comments/opinions/input greatly appreciated.

Oh, they also have a Scalpel 5 that is also originally $2499 for $1499.

My LBS has two Cannondale bikes originally $2499 on sale for $1499. I'm really drawn to the pricing of course. The bikes are the Rize 4 and Scalpel 5. Both are my size. Any thoughts on one vs the other? I've found a couple of used Rize 4 online that were only a couple hundred less than this brand new one with lifetime warranty.

I have the Scalpel 4 and absolutely love it. I have no experience with the Rize but the Scalpel takes a beating and never complains about my fat azz. I'd but it again in a heartbeat.

what type of riding do you do? The scalpel is a pure race bike fast my bro rides one and it Is a very nice bike......What fits better and speaks more to how you ride.

In that case the Rize may be the better choice. My riding will be general riding, mostly around the neighborhood and around town, with maybe a little bit on the crushed stone and other trails in some of the parks. I'm a former rider getting back into it after a quarter century of not riding. I know, longer than some riders have even been alive. Yikes. Anyway, I figure a brand new bike with lifetime warranty is a better option than a used bike with nothing. If it's a $2500 bike for $1k discount it's way better components etc. than if it's a current year $1k bike. Plus the whole psych boost of a good deal. I just really like the idea of 40% off too.

One of my buddies has a Rize & he enjoys it lots: made for mellow climbing, then pointing back down the steep, chunky stuff and letting it go.

I had a 2009 Rize 3 with a Lefty. Ultimately it was a pretty disappointing bike for me. The weight was low and the travel was high. The biggest problem was the front end on the bike. Moderate to steep climbing was a real chore, the bike wanted to wheelie up any hill, requiring a lot of body English to keep the front wheel down. $1499 is a great deal if you don't have much climbing to do.

This one has a normal fork, not the lefty. I'm in Houston suburbs so no climbing really at all, just around town plus some of the crushed rock and other trails in the local parks. I think I'm going to offer $1500 out the door with a helmet included and see what happens.
