Indoor Trainer

Does an indoor trainer work well for a mountain bike? Does anyone has recommendations or things I should look out for? Thanks!

Put a trainer tire on it unless you want every one of your neighbors to hate your guts. Trainer + knobby tires is super loud. Assuming you're going for a traditional trainer that places a drum against your tire and not one of the expensive ones that mount to your drivetrain. Your best bet for reasonably priced yet good trainers are the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and CycleOps Fluid2. If you have much more than that to spend, you may be able to swing one of the drivetrain ones (I think the LeMond revolution, for example runs around $700).

She nailed it. These are less popular in 26" rather than a 700c road tire, but they exist.

One other thing to watch for is that some front wheel blocks do not fit a MTB tire very well. Some do. Buy the right kind. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the front blocks. I use the triangular CycleOps one that one of my friends was getting rid of. Before that, I used a fat textbook that worked just as well.
