What Model Trek??
1 Attachment(s)
I saw an ad posted for a year old Trek with upgraded components. I might be interested in buying it if I can figure what model it is. Help?

can you get more pictures?

I wish! That's all I saw posted. I'll reply, and see what I can get. I was just curious if anyone could tell by looking at that picture. It's not much to go on!

"Year old"?? No way.

Rim Brakes,, dirty shock shafts, Dirt falling off on the floor, pedals are cheap looking,,,, Pass on it. When you post to sell It should be shined up spiffy.

Great point, osco53! Seller obviously hasn't taken care of the bike. Otherwise, he'd be showcasing it. Instead, I get a single picture with terrible quality. I don't know the year or model of the bike either. If he spent half as much time prepping to sell as I've spent trying to fill in the gaps, the bike would've been sold by now! Thanks for the help.

keep looking...you will find a gem! It has happened to me, so I know. :thumb:

The frame looks like one of the old Trek singletrack steel frames, but I've never seen one with Trek written on both the down tube and seat tube--especially not in two different colors like that. I think the person may have added that blue Trek seat tube decal after the fact. It appears to have those cheap combo shifter/brake levers that come on entry level bikes. The fork was definitely added later on, and it looks like a rather nice fork. I'd ask about the components on the rest of the bike, perhaps go take a look at it if the price is right. Sometimes one finds diamonds in the rough.

Black frame with the white Trek decal makes it look like it could be a Trek Police model.
The blue Trek decal/sticker on the seat tube might of added on later, not all Trek Police models have the Police decal on them. |

Looks like a Police bike. I wouldnt pay more than $150 based solely on how little the seller appears to care about the bike and actually selling it.... thats assuming you really want it. The Police models are often a confusing mixture of good and bad components; Recon fork is pretty good, those EF-51(ish) shifters are very very entry level, and the rest of the bike that we cant see, who knows.

It was probably bought for less than $20 at a police auction and the seller is hoping to make some good money selling it on craigslist.

I've seen that same frame on a friends bike a few years ago. His original Trek 7500 cracked. The Trek warranty replacement frame was black and had that same white Trek decal on the downtube and a blue Trek decal on the seat tube. It had no model designation on the top tube (or anywhere else). This all occurred around 4 years ago. As has been said, no way that's a one year old bike.

You crap on rim brakes, maybe you should ask where the guy lives. Here in South Florida there is absolutely NO USE for disc brakes as nothing you would ride around here would need that much stopping power. I've been riding 20+ years in Northern California, Western Virginia and South Florida and I've never had an issue stopping with rim brakes.
