Question about first bike
hey guys, I want to get into riding a bike, I am 5"10 , and thinking about getting medium 17-18 inch frame right? 19 might be ok but pushing it.
anyways I have read this post about m80 bike, and you guys said it was bad and not worth 250 bux used. (i did not see the pictures of it) but i m guessing it was because it looked horible and had wrong fork? I looked up online etc, and can not find any m80 bike that is 350 bux new. most go for 450 and up. So my question is this , if that bike is in good condition is it worth buying it for 250-275? this person near me is selling 2002 version m80 , he said he will trade me my camera , which cost me 250 , or 275 cash, he wanted 350 in the add. saying how he paid 550 for it. what you guys sugest? Also I have read the whole 500 dollar mountain bike thread, thanx for posting that and I picked out some bikes there that seem nice, but 500 is not my price range, in begining it was 200, now its under 320 heh. I dont really want to spend over that, since I barely ride, and dont know if i will stick to it anyways. yes i m also considering kona blast, scrap, and trek 4500 but its pretty pricey. over 400. and specilised hardrock sport and rockhopper. those seem decent in my price range, i might check them out in store I m checking craigslist every day for a nice deal, so far i let kona get away from me , seemed like a awsome bike, but guy did not respond and it was sold ; ( so what do you guys sugest, should i check out and see that m80 , if its in good condition buy it for like 250-260 bux? or wait till better deal comes along or just go buy a new specilized hardrock sport? thanx in advance , and sorry for making this long Ilya |
I always say, new is better. Plus your staying away from all of THEIR problems. Go new, but stay in your price range.

Why go new when you can get a bike thats twice the price normally? A bike isnt something that wears out that much. Theres no point to going new really if you are just getting into biking. New bikes are more expensive and are not always built better than used ones. And as far as staying away from THEIR problems, what if the person is an avid biker, then their bike is most likely better and in better condition than a new bike. Basically just check out the bike before you buy it. Try to find someone who knows about bikes to check it out for you and ride it to make sure everything is in working order.

I mean ye, why get new? yes new is new, but u can get 600+ dollar bike for half or less $$, plus i dont get why some ppl want new and then they tell u to upgrade parts anyways. who cares if its new or old then, if u will be changing brakes, fork, pedals etc. I just find it funny.
so any info about m80? or specilized hardrock sport is better for 350 new, and i bet used would be 100-200 for nice bike thanx |
I bought mine used and have had no issues from it that *I* didn't create.

we'll i bought a hardrock new its really great never had any major probs and im not the craziest biker in the world probably do what you would. And i dont think the used is a bad alterantive. my preferance = hardrock.
