But, I didn't see one specific to the question I'm about to ask. I have a 1997 Trek 830 that is in really good condition. Paint has a few scuffs and scratches, but is not damaged. It has been recently tuned up, it really needs nothing more than a new rider. I've replaced the shifters, brakes, tires, saddle, grips, and pedals. All cables are new, and new housing installed where needed. Frame is 21", and AFAIK, it's full chro-moly including the fork. Rims are Araya, RD is Shimano Alivio, FD is Shimano AceraX. Rides great and shift great. Now my question: How much is it worth? It's made in the USA, would that add value? Thanks in advance.

For what it's worth, thats what the market (like ebay/craigslist) will decide, remember the 830 was a lower spec bike BITB, great as a modern day commuter, but not comparable with modern MTB's, as due to having a 1" steerer there isn't much you can do with the fork, and as it has a 7 speed groupset, any upgrading to modern hardware will be very expensive / not cost effective.

Would be prepared for this when selling.

Thank you. This was the kind of information I was looking for. I don't know the market, but I believe there aren't may folks in central Kansas who are looking for a mountain bike unless they buy it at a department store and use it on the street. I didn't want to charge an insane price, but I also don't want to give it away. Thanks for your advice, jimc101.
