Hand positions ARE nice to have sometimes.

I don't have a car so I usually have a 5-15 mile road grind to get to the fun stuff and barends would be nice to have for said grinds. I just grin and bear it these days, though. I last used barends on a multi-day mixed road/offroad tour last summer.

My daughter's "Sweet Sixteen" bike. She loves it, just as it is. . . except for the newest update,a color-matched bottle cage. Going on tomorrow.

To me it boils down to personal preference. My '98 Schwinn Moab 2 had some stock bar ends which I replaced with some better Profile bar ends which I used for a few years. The last few years the MTB hasn't seen much use and when it has, I don't use them so they came off during the rebuild/refit of my MTB. Right now I'm rebuilding my wife's Trek 7000 and asked if she wanted them left on and she said 'hell yeah!'

My bike had them on when I bought it (used). I like 'em. Doubt I'll ever take them off.
