What's the saying? Oh yeah, you better check yourself before you wreck yourself...
I got a bit too hot on a section of trail today which resulted in the untimely death of a San Marco seat. I zigged instead of zagged, and sat when I should have stood up - resulting in a nicely timed punch right in the taint. Yeah. Standing is a good thing.

Yikes. I'm sure I'll be sitting on my saddle less after seeing that.

I did that on a road bike once when the chain snapped. Not a feeling I ever want to repeat. Hope you didn't break anything on yourself.

Oh yeah, lesson learned!
Nah, but I did get a couple of bruises on the right thigh above the knee from the brake lever along with a couple of nice punctures on the left shin from my platforms. Today is a good day to recover!

I don't think SPD's would have helped at all, if not made it worse. Being attached to the bike would have been a much bigger wreck, and probably much more painful of a landing for me and my bike. Clipping in is NOT for me, and most likely never will be. I like being able to dab when I need to - I will take that over the "efficiency" of SPD's any day of the week.

Well, rough trails and downhill is what the desert is all about! If I wanted flat, I would move back to Belvidere...

For ME, I guess that if your going to fall off, doesn't matter of the bike is attached to you or not, your hitting the dirt anyway!
Having the feet attached to the pedals gives me confidence, I hate the idea that a foot could slip off a pedal, particularly down hill on tricky bits, and anything that helps the bike from coming up between the legs in a crash HAS to be a plus. I reckon SPDs help with this.
More power pedalling is just a bonus.
For ME anyways.
