Have You Ridden in the Snow Yet?
We got about 3 inches of snow yesterday and went for a ride at Alum Creek State Park. It was awesome. Looking forward to more winter riding. Has anyone else been out in the snow yet? It made me wonder… what's the deepest snow you've tried to ride in?
Check out some of the photos from our ride! http://quickdirt.com/2013/12/15/ridi...overed-trails/ |
The Pug and I have ridden through 8 - 10 inches of snow...

Yes.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/IMG_0097.jpg And damn you, Sixty Fiver - it was your fat bike pics which drove me over the edge... http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/IMG_0022.jpg Though I ride every winter we get snow, until the point it gets too deep/crusty/post-holed by hikers. Then the running shoes/snowshoes come out The Fatty is looking to shake things up a bit, however. |
Only twice, but loved it. Planned a trip up to Wales (6 hour drive for us). It was snowing but we went as time of work and accomodation had already been sorted. The snow was about a foot deep, but the trails over Wales are very wet (moving water, so the trails weren't too frozen) and had already a couple of riders through it, loads more fun than I expected!

Had a snow ride Fri, Sat & Sun. Up a bit north of you, near Youngstown. Conditions were great Fri & Sat - not so much today.
Still, better to get out and ride than to sit on the couch. Steve Z |
My very first gravity race, back in 2001, was a dual slalom in the snow . . .

Snow riding is a fact of life here at this time of the year... I whipped this up over a couple of hours yesterday and today.

That's a sweet ride. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my rigid frame and fork. Would have been a good use for it.
It rides really well and tracks beautifully in the snow and slush... the benefits of a longer wheelbase and slack frame angles. |
I've had my black bacon fat [bike] for two months now. This past weekend was the first time it's snowed, so I had to get it out. True to the reputation, it's very good in the snow, but not nearly as invincible as I'd expected.
It's held up quite well so far, other than some small toolfree trim adjustment on the RD, I haven't had to do a thing. We got about 6" (my pedals were scraping the top of the snow) on Saturday night, so I took it for a spin around town. Definitely got some weird looks. http://i.imgur.com/tkj9Kg6.jpg |
I just built this Troll up and luckily we have had a bit of snow. http://http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2849/1...ffc1fd6a0e.jpg

Beautiful day on Saturday -- high of 32 with not a cloud in the sky -- after some light snow on Thursday night.

Has anyone tried to ride in the polar vortex? What is the coldest temperature you have ridden in? Post photos. What do you have to wear to ride in these frigid temperatures?
