Best long travel forks + shock in terms of value and performance?

Hello there! I was wondering if anybody could help me? I'm currently building up my first full sus bike, an old specialized big hit, because it fits 24" wheels, about the only frame apart from the kona stinky that does! Anyway I want to use it for general freeriding and want to build it up pretty strong and able to take abuse. I'm looking for a good set of forks and shock to put on it. I'm buying used as to save on money as I don't have too much! Does anyone have any reccomendations? I was reccomended the fox float 36 and the dhx 5.0 air shock, but problem is the floats are very expensive used compared to other forks

Yes. In 08 there were manufacturing changes at Marzocchi IIRC and by many accounts their reliability suffered.

With regards to rear shock, I wouldn't get too fancy, a simple rebound adjustable fox coil shock will be suitable, and springs/service/rebuild support is readily available.
