Weather was dry today so I took a little adventure. I found a trail online in the local backcountry that leads to a dam and then to an old abandoned Mercury Mine. The ride sucked most of the time due to crazy climbs and lots of mud. I made it, even after being concerned for my safety a few times. But I got a few pix to share with you guys. I did also come across a deer carcass in the trail. Deer don't die in the middle of trails. I wonder if something killed it and ate it there. Had me looking around for mountain lions.
BTW, IRC Mythos tires DO NOT shed mud at all!!!
I also gotta say that you should not go trail riding alone, too dangerous. Just not worth the risk. Some of us don't have riding buddies, like me, but it should be given serious consideration.
4 pcitures
1)Water running over the road that used to be driveable, almost got swept away into river many times.
2)Me standing in front of the old mine shaft where the mine cars would enter into
3)Picture of the dam from distance, I was at the top of the climb, finally, which I walked most of.
4)Pic of the Mercury Mine. I hoped the fence to check it out. Walked across the mine car tracks and was gonna walk down the staircase to the bottom, but heard jsut creaking and cracking and falling all the way down, that was enough adventure for me!

This is the Los Padres Nation Forest just outside Santa Barbara, CA. Most people hike and bike the fron side of the mountains, but if you just drive 20 minutes over the top, you are in a freakin paradise that I never knew existed. The beauty is amazing and there are camp grounds everywhere. Not the lame state park campgrounds. but just spots to pitch a tent. I love that stuff. Gotta get away from civilization sometimes.
Loved the joke about the deer dying of mercury poisoning.
www.santabarbarahikes.com has some great info on local trail, with pix

I wasn't joking.... Mercury poisoning works that way. It gathers up in the body & then bamm, you just drop over in the blink of an eye w/o warning....

I heard mercury is a killer, no pun intended.
I agree with you man about ride pix being the best. I do a lot more talking about riding then I do actual riding. If it wasn't for the MTB, I would not have done that trail. too long for an afternoon hike. MTB comes in handy sometimes. Cover ground about 4X faster than hiking.
