New Mexico Trip

Just confirmed that me and 3 other buddies are driving from Wisconsin to New Mexico end of May. I guess somewhere near Albuquerque. Does anyone have some must rides or tales to tell? We are mostly Cross Country and a little bit Enduro riders. Are there some nice places to camp/tent - swim? I am training now so I can keep up with these guys and lose my Clydesdale status. Is it comparable to Fruita, CO?

You can repost this in the Southwest thread and get more answers.

New Mexico is MTBing mecca. Fruita is a great place and similar. This link is a good place to start.

Those two links offer NOTHING for the Four Corners!! Shame on them!

Dang, if you waited a few more weeks you could ride the Gravity National Championship at Angel Fire :D.

The Four Corners is a region deserving its own website!

If you are going to Albuquerque don't miss out on the tram trail that starts at the tram and heads South towards town. This is a fun afternoon ride. The next morning you should check out Coyote Trail on the east end of town. On your way back to Wisconsin, you definitely want to check out Angel Fire Bike Park up in Angel Fire. Take the time, rent a bike and have a blast taking a chair lift up and blazing down the trails. Check out angelfirebikepark.com for more info. All in all you are in a mtb mecca of the United States. Santa Fe has some fun stuff as well like the Windsor trail. However, up in the Angel Fire area you have Enduro trails galore with: South Boundary Trail (26 mile epic) Rift Valley (10 mile flowy pumpy cruiser) Devisidero and talpas (10 mile technical flowy trail) Angel Fire Bike Park (60+ miles of chairlift access trail #1 bike park in the Southwest, this includes California) Angel Fire also has an up-hill trail that you can access the bike park with as well as a gamut of singletrack trails to choose from on the west end of town. There is also Northside at Taos which has a gamut of above treeline high alpine riding. If I were to choose a destination I would most likely pick the taos/Angel Fire area to explore as the temperatures aren't smoldering like they will be down in ABQ. On top of that the riding is awesome! Hope this helps. -Hogan-
