Which Outpost GT?

hi all,
hoping someone here can help me identify this bike. sorry about the crappy pic, it was the only one i could find on the inner webs that had this stay arrangement. i'll try and get better pics of the actual bike up tomorrow.
in the mean time: the decals say GT Outpost All Terra and it has a low end Shimano Altus component group. https://images.wiju.com/products/4/86...5642565686.jpg
thanks.

I'm guessing that's Glacier Green, so 1994, after looking at the catalogs.

here's a pic of the actual bike. it's my daughter's and she's asked me to try and get it running for her. it's been sitting for awhile. i have no idea of the provenance or anything else about it. trying to decide if it's worth putting any time or money into or if i should tell her to just get another bike. by the way, this one and the one in the first post are the only ones i've seen that look like this. all the others just had the seat and chain stays.

If all it needs is a saddle then go for it.
They were 300 - ish new. I sold an 89 for $80 before. It was in NICE shape, though.

found a couple more of these when i googled ladies/girls GT Outpost.hundreds of pic of the other frame styles but just a few of this style. wonder if there is any way to determine what year it is. Lesterofpuppets, it actually has a saddle and everything else is there. main problem is the shifters and brakes. crud in the shifters has frozen the little pawls and ratchets. so far they've cleaned up and are working. they seem designed to fail. and the little plastic bushings that hold the ends of the brake caliper springs are broken of course. also designed to fail. i've managed to jerry rig them for the time being.

Yeah, those shifters suck ass. At the nonprofit bike shop if I see RapidFire (pre-RapidFire+) I pretty much assume both will be dead, but maybe one will work but really crappily. Sometimes spraying a bunch of WD40 in there will fix them but...

Once upon a time you could get Deore II thumbshifters for $20 a pair all day long and that was the ticket. But now you usually have to pay a bit more for those.

If you check the catalog link I posted I'm sure you could find which year was purple. You can also check the component codes off the cranks, for instance, at vintage Trek website, they have a good Shimano date code index.

Those bikes actually ride pretty well, IMO.

thanks for the heads up w/ the date codes. looks like it's a '94, yours was a very good guess. it's older than i thought. still can't figure out why this model has those three stays and i can't find any direct reference to it. gonna go ahead and put some cheap wally world tires and tubes on it. if my daughter rides it fine, if not, no great loss. thanks again.

I call that frame style a psuedo mixte - it's a popular step-through frame style.

A mixte would have the middle stays continue up to the head tube, instead of having a single top tube going from seat tube to head tube.
