I want to get a mountain bike since im tearing my road bike with daily commute to work (30 miles/day). Is this a good deal below?

No, not really. They downgraded the bike, the rd should be Deore or better not the Acera they put on there. Looks like just about everything they put on there is worse than the parts it came with. Save for the fork and discs. And it's fairly expensive

Here's the same bike in your area with the original components for a much better price. Though it's likely too small for you.

A 10 year old mountain bike for $350 with mechanical brakes seems kinda pricey. There's nothing particularly special about that hardtail, unless I'm missing something...

No I don't think so. You'll definitely get better bike for the money going used, just that particular one isn't what you should be looking for.

30 mile daily round trip? I wouldn't wanna do that on an entry level hardtail.

Just get a beater road bike.

Do any of them fit 28mm tires? You could make that your commuter/rough road rider.

If hooked on MTB idea, I'd look for something lighter than that Tassajara, probably full rigid, too. Try to keep it 25lbs or less, if possible.

A rigid MTB would make a good commuter bike. Just throw on some fast rolling fat slicks and you're set.

No they can only fit 25/23. Yes i was thinking of a light MTB.

I freddly go between my skinny and fat tires. Everyone should have at least one of each. The best bike you can get, and I vote for a hardtail. This gives you more riding variety. Commuting is a breeze, get some 1.5 slicks and then some knobbies for chasing coyotes and armadillos in Texas.
