"Diamondback Moab" ??

Hello all. I might as well introduce myself a little: I am a 29 year-old computer geek living in Sweden, with a little (but not much) experience of mountainbike riding. Now that that is taken care of, here is the reason why I am posting here:

Two years ago, when I was living in central Stockholm, I bought a used mountainbike from one of the local police bicycle auctions. Stolen bicycles that are found/recovered but not retrieved by their owners within 6 months or so are sold at these auctions, and you can find pretty nice bikes there. I happened to find a tired-looking Diamondback mountainbike with XT gears. At closer inspection the bike was in pretty good shape and not very old, just dirty and with deflated tires. I bought it for about $60 US dollars and rolled it home. Living in central Stockholm and not liking riding next to crazy taxi drivers I just let the bike sit in my basement for two years after my initial two or three rides.

Last week I moved up north a bit to a smaller town where I grew up. Plenty of good riding is available, both downhill and pretty paths for fitness riding, so I let a skilled local bike shop replace some parts on the bike (I hate gripshifts so I had them replaced with those...errr..I don't know what they are called).

Now, for my real question: I have asked plenty of people that are supposedly in the know, and I have googled myself tired of this, but I can not find *any* information anywhere on a "Diamondback Moab" model, and no frame by that same name either. Does anybody know if this is any good? The components look decent to me with XT gears (8 disc back hub) and LX front hub. The frame itself is matte silver with "Diamondback" in dark gray color and "Moab" in a dull red. It's a "hard" bike, no suspension whatsoever.

If anyone has any information on this bike/frame I would love to hear it.

The "hard" ride you are referring to is called a rigid bike, if there is no suspension. Your frame is called a hardtail frame, meaning there is no rear-suspension.

I have come across the Schwinn Moab series of bikes when searching the web, but they do not look anything like my bike. This rigid ride (thanks for clearing up my terminology ) has a TrueTemper AVR cro-moly frame, or so it says on a tiny sticker on it. I'm leaning towards guessing it might be some sort of old Diamondback Apex, or similar model.

I did my last attempt at identifying it by giving the stamped serial number to the local police to see if they have it registered. When you register a bike they put down the exact model number so *if* it is registered it should be possible to find out.

Any way, I got the bike back from the repair shop yesterday, with new gear levers and adjusted gears. It's an absolutely brilliant ride!

I know, I know: this thread is years out of date but since it is the first one somehow linked to the top google result for Diamondback Moab I feel obligated to reply.

It was 1996, I guess, when I first spend more than one grand for a bike. It was kind of a shelf warmer so I got some off from the originally higher price. It was the misterious Diamondback Moab! It was not listed in the catalogues but years later, when I met a driver with a Moab too, he told me, it must have been a better equipped Diamondback Ascent. Make sense...

Over the years I rebuild it two times. At the moment the frame (about 16 to 17 inches: about 4lbs.) and the fork (over 2lbs.), both made from CrMo steel, is waiting for its next awakening...

P.S. I don't know what the color is named by Diamondback but it's far away from silver... it's more like champagne metallic (or something... silver with a light touch of bronze or copper, dunno).
