20MM Axle
I am looking for a new wheel set. Will a 20MM Axle fit my bike? What is the benift of a 20mm Axle.
I have a GT I-Drive 5.0 with the factory fork. Rock Shock Judy TT. |
NO!
You need a special fork with a dropout that will hold the 20 mm thru axle. I'm assuming you're looking at a Marzocchi or a Rock Shox with the Tulio. Many hubs are available that are compatible, but that means relacing the new hub to your rim. That also means new spokes if the hub flanges are of different diameters. L8R |
a2psyklnut thanks for the input. I have a second question coming out of the first.
What is the benifit of useing a 20mm axle. And also will my roof racks still hold the bike? |
The thru axle stiffens the fork from any lateral movement.
It does essentially the same job as the arch at the top of the sliders. It makes both sides of the fork act as one! Yes it does work. The rack thingy requires a converter that you put onto your forks using the thru axle and it has tabs that allow you to use it on a standard rack. See this link:http://www.bicycle-fork-adapter.com/ This is just one company that makes these. There is another and their product is called the "Fork-Up" but I couldn't find the link. L8R |
Looked at the adapter, nice. Do you have one? If so does the bike still end up locked to the rack. It looks like it would not be, and for me that is bad.

I use a hitch mounted rack, so I don't have to worry about a fork adapter.
I'm not sure about securing the thing. I'm sure some company out there has addressed a way to lock it though. Good Luck L8R |
