Newbie here - some advice on disc and V wheelsets?
Here's my story: I ordered a cheap Shimano Deore mech. front disc brake. Now I find that it won't fit my wheel b/c of the hub. I'm willing to upgrade both wheels, but I only have a front disc, which means I'll need disc hubs and V-brake rims. Any ideas? Price is the name of the game.
Also, will my current rear casette fit any wheels I buy? TIA:beer: By the way - I'm so glad I found this site!! |
First ? regarding the cassette? Is your current set-up 7, 8 or 9 speed? If you're 8 or 9 you're o.k. If you're 7 speed, then there is a problem because the spacing of the cassette is different. It's easily remedied by a spacer, but just something to remember.
Secondly, a lot of new wheels have disc-ready hubs, with rim brake surfaces. The only thing to watch out for would be disc specific rims. Mavic X-series are disc specific for instance the X-317's. Hope that helps L8R BTW, I'm glad you found this site too! Welcome! |
Well I have an 8 speed, so I guess I'm all right. Pricepoint seems to have a shimano set for $170, I think that's my ticket. Thanks
