Trails in GA?

Just wondering if there were any good trails in Georgia? Maybe some kind of XC trails, or DH......

I looked around on some sites, but you either had to pay for the site, or they didn't give enough info for me.

I've ridden some great trails just North of Helen. There is a State Park there (Occoee maybe?), a real fun loop that was a decent sized figure 8, good long climbs, some fun descents, a good time.

I've never been, but I know a lot of people ride up in Elijay area.

I need to find out where those trails are. A friend of mine's grandparents own a "summer" home in hiawasee or something ( I know thats not spelled right). We always just end up driving the extra hour to tsali and we drive through helen and ellijay to get to the house anyway. The trails near atlanta that I've gone on have been blankets creek and yellow river, and big creek but I think it's still closed.

Depends on where in Georgia. N Georgia there are tons of trails. Go to WWW.sorba.org. Bull MT is one not to miss near Dahlonega. Unicoi is pretty good in Helen. There is a bikefest in Helen soon, Helen Fat Tire Fest

I live in Rome. I heard that they are thinking about building a DH course in Ellijay. I hope the actually do it. That would be awesome.

They built a new trail just north of Atl. at Central Park in Forsyth County. Haven't been yet though. I'm sure its prolly not as good as some others further north, but a lot closer if your in Atl.

how far are you from tsali

those trails, if you haven't ridden them, are fun - though not very technically challenging

any decent trails out at berry college

alcahueteria 04-11-05 09:22 PM

a straight drive probably about 2.5 to 3.5 hours. I've never been straight there. Forsyth county eh? I might have to look that up. I think I am going to try to hit chickopee this weekend, it's near gainsville? I think. I don't know where berry is relative to atlanta. mtbr has a good list of trails though.

Berry College has some trails, but nothing impressive. I want some kind of technical trail. All Berry can offer is some long uphill trails. Though fun coming down, I want something that can give me a challenge. =)

There is a fantastic, dedicated mountain bike trail network maintained by Sorba just north of Atlanta. It's called Blankets Creek and consists of about 15 miles of singletrack in three loops. Lots of log crossings, creeks, and even a skinny on the toughest trail.

From Atlanta, take 575 north to exit 11 (Sixes Road). Take a left back over the freeway and go down Sixes road about 1.8 miles. The parking area is on the left. You can read more about it here: http://www.sorbawoodstock.org/trails.html

Wow. Thanks Akak. I'll have to check it out.

personally I think I enjoy yellow river a bit more than blankets creek, mostly because it has some drops. It doesn't really have a single path though, it has mutlitple entrances and they all just cross over each other.

I've ridden/raced most of the trails from Macon up and a lot in SC. I am in Augusta. Where at are you looking at riding? Are you visiting or moving?

RdHrd138 04-12-05 01:39 PM

I'm just looking for a place to visit. I live in Rome, so driving really isn't that much of a problem for me.

So how often have you guys ridden trails in GA?

alcahueteria 04-12-05 03:46 PM

I ride every weekend. hey tire-d, I'm from augusta but didn't get into biking until after I left for school, I rode the pumphouse trail behind the old waterworks down by the canal. I liked that a lot are there any others of that caliber around?
I've ridden some trails in carrolton too, I definitely liked the ones north of atlanta better but they were good for a shorter drive if you lived near there.
