I bought my house two years ago but alas, it has no garage. Right now I keep my bike in the basement, but now that my two roommates are getting into mountain biking as well it's starting to get kind of crowded down there! Are there any good solutions people have come up with for wall or ceiling storage? I'm trying to free up some floor space but still keep the bikes easily accessible...

In the basement you could get of those bike racks that go on the wall and hold a couple bikes. they are easy to install and the bikes come on and off rather easily (the frame just sits on a rubber platform. Since the title of the thread is asking i have a bike shop connected to the garage.

I sleep 6 feet away from my MTB, and about 30 feet away from my Commuter/Road/Training bike

My friend took a hook, put it into the ceiling and hung some rope on the hook. The saddle goes into the rope, and rear tire leans against the wall. Perfect engineering --> reliable, & cheap

I went to Lowe's, grabbed four, rubberized hooks, screwed them into the beams on the ceiling of my garage and hung my bikes, upside-down, over my wife's car. They're out of the way, easy to access and always ready to roll. The only downside: I have to remember to duck whenever I walk through the empty garage!

In summer i keep mine in the garage locked up to my Table Tennis Table, in winter when its -40 outside, she stays in my laundry room....

I keep my bike in my living room. My fireplace is perfect for storing my bike... Doesn't get the carpet dirty or anything..

I keep mine in the garage, we have plenty of space. But i agree the 'bike on the wall' idea would probalby be the most efficent storage way. I've heard of other ones where the bikes on the roof? Dunno how that works..

In the shed.. there are about 5 bikes in there, it's like a stack... push and pop the top to access

i keep it in the basement. Its warm because of the furnace down there so any mud or whatnot dries fast.

I keep mine hanging up in the goat stable. No joke.

I hang my bikes from the ceiling. The motivation to do this came from the Fox guide (on their WEB site) which recommends hanging their forks upside down to keep the seals/oil-scrapers lubed.

Are you one of those who lets the mud dry then brushes it off rather than hosing water all over the bike? That's my preferred method. Water and metal + bearings are not a good mix. With the mud in my area, a soft paint brush generally gets it clean.

Mine used to be kept in my room, which i liked because if you get bored at night, when everones gone to bed, whip the bike out and practise hopping around the room (ground floor room so no-one hears it)

But, i got told to put them down the garage to accomodate for my fishtanks, then again, sposer its for the best, hopping around on a bike next to a fishtank isnt a good idea.

we have a bike room, it's right behind my room in the house. It's tile, it used to be a kitchen. It's super sweet.

Mine is stored in the garage on a bike hoist. To pully's and hooks that hook to the handle bars and seat then you just hoist it up and out of the way.
I have an alcov cut in the ceiling so it fits up without ducking. no worries of hitting head.
