I understand that given my height, I will need an X-L or Jumbo (XXL). I did the research and it seems this is the size range for me. I am lean and fit, and proportionate, so I'm not to worried about whether or not the bike can support someone who is bigger than me. I'm not "big and tall," but "tall" if that makes sense.

I want to take this bike off-road but also use it as a road bike/beach bike, etc. I'm looking for something multi-purpose. I really am pretty ignorant when it comes to what a good bike is. It's spring here and I want to get on a bike asap.

But I don't want to spend a ton of money on one either. 2000+ is just not feasible for me at the moment. Any chance anyone has a good experience with Cannondale? My LBS has this brand for around 500 in their sale section. I post both the X-L and the Jumbo.

I know carbon is supposed to be better than aluminum, but really, I haven't noticed a difference.

Of those 2 Canondales, I would definitely go for the 29er. I can't imagine a situation where a 26er Hardtail would be a better choice unless it's a question of a small rider, which of course is the opposite of your case.
Other than that, I don't have any particular knowledge of the Cannondale you posted. Looks like a fairly typical mix of AL frame with basic-level componentry.

My buddy who is also 6'5" was in your same position late last year. He ended up with a Trek Marlin 6 in XXL, got a good deal on a '14 model before the '15s came out. Maybe another choice for you to check out.

Yep. After going to the store and testing out different sizes I decided I was gonna go with the XXL or as some brands call it, Jumbo. And I will also be exclusively looking into 29ers.

Though, for anyone else out there, I'm wondering if Cannondale is any good? I'm shopping locally as this seems like my best bet for closeout deals. Haven't found a deal on Trek or Specialized yet.

Cannondale makes good stuff. I have lots of friends who ride C'dale and love them.
