Denver Rollers

I just looked at the detail for this years RAGBRAI, a route very similar to one of my last rides in 1994......21,000 feet of climbing. Where's a good spot around the metro area to get in some rolling hills?

Go east. Ride out to Strausburg and back or out to Elisabeth. If you want hills in town, go west of the Platte and follow just about any street north or south (don't go down on the river). Lowell or Perry or Pierce would be good choices. Fairly low traffic and lots of hills to climb. There's a real nasty one north of 71st Ave.

Here's a route near Boulder that would be a good place to start (it loads realllllllll slow:o). Do the ride counterclockwise to maximize the hill climbing.

Start at the new Orchard shopping center and follow the I-25 frontage road north as far as you want. There are larger hills out near Longmont. Longmont to Loveland (CO7 to US 36) would have the nastiest ones.

South by Castle Rock, or SE by E-470 seem to have some rollers. Not to sure of exact routs though. I prefer the foothills.

Boulder to Lyons goes up and down pretty good and has decent shoulders all the way. For extra fun you can turn off left hand canyon and power up and over to stagecoach/Lee Hill....or....come up Lee Hill/Stagecoach to Left Hand and then back down to 36. That's a real climb.
