I-70: Georgetown to Idaho Springs

i'm looking at places to stay for the bob cook this weekend. (yeah yeah i know i'm a little late, but i didnt commit/register till a few days ago), and it looks like Idaho Springs options are understandably slim that weekend, so i'm looking at georgetown too, which is just 12 miles up the road.

i'm no stranger to hwy riding, and i figure its mostly easy rolling downhillish, so a nice warm up befire the ride. but having never ridden it i'm wondering if anybody would advise against it, or has a better suggestion?

I'll be driving up from Fort Collins that morning and will probably pick up Deadhead in Loveland. As a support vehicle driver, I have to be there by 6:30 (Citizen's race is at 7:30). If you would prefer to save some coin and sleep in your own bed, I could provide a ride while you doze.

thats a really nice offer, but i think my wife is gonna be joining me and i feel like i'll do better if i sleep nearby and get a little warmup spin in, rather than sit in a car for 2 hours that morning. we usually make a little weekend vacation out of it.

if that changes or if we dont find anything i'll let you know.

again, thats very thoughtful.

Are you asking about riding I-70 between GT and IS? Because, there's a frontage road, that's quite nice. 2 miles or so of dirt somewhere (can't remember where) but it's no big deal. It's on the south side of the Highway, called "Alvarado Rd." in GT and in Dumont you cross under the highway and it's called Stanley Road. It's pretty obvious.

aahhh good to know.

i checked googlemaps and ddidnt see the frontage road, or in anycase it didnt look like it went all the way through, but if you say it does...
