Neuvation Newsletter April 9th The Importance Of Radial Wheel Trueness.

Equal spoke tension is the Holy Grail of wheel building because spokes will fatigue equally, the rim is also less likely to come out of true because there isnít a tight or loose spoke influencing it. Both of these equate to longer wheel life.

Since spokes radiate from the hub, the radial run out has more influence on spoke tension than the lateral run out. Therefore radial run out, or trueness, is the most important. Unfortunately itís the most difficult to see and, when a tire is installed, itís virtually impossible to see it at all. Spin the wheel and you will only notice how far the rim is from the brake pads.

Machines (and most wheel builders for that matter) are poor at building round wheels because itís the most difficult part of wheel building. If any nipple is more than Ĺ turn off it will affect wheel quality (spoke threads have a 1 mm pitch so Ĺ turn is .5 mm or 20/1000Ē Ė our radial spec).

While there will always be some small hop at the seam (where the rolled hoop is joined), the next time you check a wheel for trueness focus on the radial run out, if itís round, getting the lateral trueness dialed is a piece of cake.

Thanks for reading Ė John Neugent

We do lots of custom wheel building. Itís becoming a major part of our business. All of our alloy tubular and carbon Neuvation wheels are built in out CA warehouse Ė in addition to all of the custom builds. If you think a wheel builder is qualified after building 50 wheels, think about one that builds 50 a week under the supervision of a wheel business thatís been around for over 10 years.

Take an extra 10% off all of our custom wheels. Note that Neuvaton hubs are now coming in red (they should be in the building within the week). The discount is automatically applied at checkout.

The carbon clincher rims are here. (C45 and C55). These are going to go fast only 10 sets left and the next ones are due in the middle of May. Take an extra 10% off through the end of the week. Discount applied at checkout. I have also added photos to the C45 and C55 items so you can get a good look at them. These are also now available with red anodized Neuvation hubs.

The sale on the R28 SLW wheels continues with 10% off any orders. Rims are in stock and the builds are taking a couple of days so order now.
