BikeMaine 2015: Lobsters, lighthouses, beers and bikes
 
The 3rd annual BikeMaine is set for September 12-19. This is the Bicycle Coalition of Maine's fully-supported, seven-day cycling tour open to 350 bicyclists. Each year the route explores a different section of Maine, traveling on tranquil back roads with little car traffic. This year's route starts in the southernmost tip of Maine and takes riders past sandy beaches, through historic towns and into the western hills. The terrain is moderately challenging, with daily routes averaging 55 miles. The ride includes meals made with locally-sourced ingredients, optional afternoon activities and nightly entertainment. Hello fellow biking enthusiasts!
I'm the Ride Director for BikeMaine, a week-long ride put on by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Our 3rd Annual BikeMaine will be held September 12-19, and I want to invite everyone to come along and discover why they call Maine "Vacationland." This year, we are starting in Kittery, at the very southern tip of the state, where we will camp right on the shores of Portsmouth Harbor and feast on Maine lobster. We will overnight in Old Orchard Beach, famous for its 6 mile sandy beach; Bridgton, in the Lakes Region; Bethel, at the foot of the White Mountains; Sweden, where we will stay at Camp Tapawingo, a summer camp that has been attracting children from around the country for decades; and Kennebunk, with its historic homes and proximity to President Bush's family complex, which we will ride by on our last day of riding. Thanks! With all the snow on the ground, there is little outdoor biking to occupy my time...so I have been focused on ride planning. Today the temps in Maine actually went above freezing, and the melting has begun, so there may be hope for getting out on the bike before long.
