Looking For Help In The Newport, RI Area
Many of us are hoping that someone from the Newport area can head that way and check out the fellow who has gained some notoriety for doing very little of anything and who is the subject of this thread:
https://www.bikeforums.net/clydesdale...cross-u-s.html
The guy has been on the road well over a month and has ridden very little, if you assume he has actually ridden the miles he claims to have ridden. The latest story is that his alleged wife has joined him and will ride with him on his trip despite not having been on a bike in 13 years. There are two people posting who claim to be his brother and sister-in-law. They are purporting to expose him for a fraud. They have posted pics that suggest they are legit. So far he has raised over $10K through Go Fund Me, which someone pointed out is likely taxable since he has been using it for support (e.g., goof and shelter). The thread is long, but it's a good read and has some very funny parts.
Newport Bicycles might be a good place to look for him.

According to his latest FB page update, he intends to start Sunday 09AUG after spending the day Saturday getting his wife's bike set up and some kind of test ride with her.
Any help with safe routes or riding along appreciated. We'd like him to succeed at getting underway after wasting nearly 2 months due to equipment failure and disorganization.
He may be given a ride across an unbikeable bridge, but you locals might know a better way forward. He may now have some Adventure Cycling maps but tbh his route finding up to now has been dismal.
If it were me, I'd go for a two-ferry hop and make for the Connecticut border. It would be really great if he makes it out of the smallest state in the Union, but one forum poster estimated a total of about 60 miles ridden since June 10. He and his wife are a Clyde/Athena pair so daily mileage and elevation is a challenge.
Pictures of them on bikes with the front wheels pointed west, and moving, would be greeted with cheers and great relief.
