Route from Ogunquit to Kennebunkport

I've ridden from Kittery to Ogunquit following the coast, and avoiding Route 1, but it looks like to go north from Ogunquit to Kennebunkport Route 1 to Route 9 is the only option. Does anyone have feedback as to what the rode is like and if it is bike friendly?

I'd go inland. What is it this part of?
