Bike Trails in NJ near Toms River
Going to be in NJ for an extended period of time and want to take my bike, looking for a crushed gravel type trail to rid on daily. Would like woods or park setting to stay away from the NJ drivers.
Anyone have any ideas? |
You've probably already found this, but there's the 10-mile Barnegat Rail Trail Barnegat Branch Trail | New Jersey Trails | TrailLink.com
I've never ridden it, but it's asphalt and cinder, so sort of what you are looking for. |

I've never ridden it, but it's asphalt and cinder, so sort of what you are looking for. Depending on your bike/comfort level, you may like Wharton State Forest. It's largely singletrack, but well packed. Not too far from Toms River, depending on your location, either. |
Cattus Island is nice.

It looks like there is a trail from outside of Farmingdale into Manasquan. Google the Freehold and Jamesburg Rail Trail. That goes into the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway. There is also the Henry Hudson Trail that starts outside of Freehold and loops all the way up into the Atlantic Highlands.

Manasquan Reservoir in Howell, 5 miles, crushed gravel, dirt. Pretty nice in the morning, but gets crowded late morning until late afternoon. I've probably done 1000 miles on that trail over the years.
The Edgar Felix trail is paved but still good for a mountain bike. A bit rough for a road bike. About 5 miles from Allaire State Park to Manasquan. |

If you have any knobbier tires, I think there would be a good amount of riding in Wharton State Forest. It would be a little bit of a hike though.

go to beachwood bikes, they can direct you to many different local places
