NYC Bike Lanes

New York City Bike Lanes

There are some new Bike Lanes being marked on the Upper East Side, "The DOT said it would install bike lanes on four Upper East Side streets that would stretch from Central Park to the East River. Painted lanes are to be installed on on 70th, 71st, 77th and 78th streets and the construction process began in July,"...:

We rode the NYC Century on September 10th, having made this ride also in 2009. The difference is astounding. Of the 100 kilometers we rode, probably +90% were on protected bike lines, dedicated bike lanes, striped lanes, or sharrow-ed lanes. We did an 'off menu' ride the night before the tour to pick up our packets and visit the 9/11 site and Battery Park. We rode all the way back to our hotel on W 71st, via the West Hudson bikeway. Really fantastic.

The city is 100% more bike friendly than in 2009.

A few photos... The Hudson River Greenway is great, it is completely separated from traffic by concrete barriers 18 inches high, but I can't find any photos of it. I really should try to photograph the Bike Lanes more, especially the stenciled markings...

Nice shots!

In my Facebook account, my album "My New York" contains many shots of bike lanes. I believe that these albums can now be seen anyone, even someone who does not have a Facebook account. See it here.

(Note: the other languages in the descriptions of each individual photo are Esperanto and Interlingua.)

Thanks! You are a great photographer, and you must have gone to every corner of New York City on your Bike, you have an incredible album of photos.

I shot some video of the Hudson River Greenway, which you were referring to.

Oh, thanks! I am particularly proud of the shot that I took on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, just north of Broadway. I have framed it and hung it in my apartment.

I've been experimenting with an SJ4000 camera. Have done some videos (including the one above), but now have switched it to shoot one photo every five seconds (still frame). I have hacked a way of attaching a camera to a Citi Bike, by zip-tying a selfie-stick to the bike's cargo carrier...

IMG_4523 by AviationMetalSmith, on Flickr

And I found a shop that still sells these older selfie sticks, and bought a spare...
EDIT:
The point being, if the selfie stick has a groove in it, for the wire, it can NOT be rotated... The smooth one now comes with a Bluetooth Fob, to open the shutter wirelessly.

That is pretty interesting! Very ingenious of you to rig that up like that.

I used the camera on my Galaxy S5. (Which just died yesterday. Dammit! I waited until 2014 to get a cell phone, hoping that I could beat the system and keep one for more than a couple of years. But now I am on the road to oblivion like everyone else; and, if I want to update to the S7, that will be almost $700. Yeah, I'm annoyed about it.)

For all shots before 2014, I used a crappy camera that cost about $20 in a drug store in 2012.
