June 3 - National Trails Day

In case you didn't hear, this weekend, June 3rd, is National Trails Day. I guess if you're looking at this you might view it from two ways:

1) This is a great day to get out and celebrate, see and maybe meet other cyclists, and various events along trails.

2) This is a good day to avoid trails, due to the hoards of slow riders, or riders and walkers who rarely get out, and aren't aware of simple etiquette like keeping to the right, etc.

I live in CT, and I expect parts of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail to be fairly crowded, also the section along the Farmington River. Check your area accordingly.

I will ride for sure. I am going to stop at Walmart and buy an airhorn.

Rude people on the trails don't understand on your left.

I was at a community meeting last night where a woman was complaining about cyclists not calling out and "sneaking up" walkers. Only because this is a group I want to meet with again did I hold myself back from replying, "Well, if YOU PEOPLE would pay attention and not crank your headphones up and not act like the entire greenway is your private phone booth, maybe you'd notice there are other people out there!"

Deep breath. Deep breath.
