Best bike fitter in Northern NJ?
 

I am thinking of paying $250 for Retul which is steep for me. I bought my first bike off of massdrop/cowboom using their 'reccomended sizing chart' 4 years ago (yup I didn't get a fit, STUPID) and definitely think my top tube length is larger than my 52 cm frame. As I wore bike shorts and increased my saddle height recently I get a lot more power peddlign but do have some pain around my testicles. I cycle 2-3 times a week for ~40 min most of the time at a good pace 7 miles

I knwo Retul is expensive but if it scales over years for me, I am willing to pay for it. I am curious however if there is any consensus on who the best North Jersey bike fitters are.

It's also confusing to me...if I want to buy a new bike, does one get fitted on some kind of 'stock' bike at the LBS and they tell you what frame is ideal for you? OR they fit you on whatever bike you bring in?

I don't know if he's bought into any of these "scientific" tools, but Alan Albert at Westwood Cycle has been fitting folks for decades, and is very well respected. He's who I brought Deb to so I didn't have to deal with fitting my wife myself. (think, teaching tour own daughter to drive).

BTW - before having a fit done (by anybody), take the time to think about why you think you need one, and what doesn't feel right, ie. you feel you're reaching for the bars, sliding forward or back on the saddle, or whatever issues you may now have that you want corrected. Tell the fitter your impressions of what isn't right, but don't get into proposing changes because that can color his judgements.

Go to westwood cycles. You don't need a retul fit- besides, if the fitters no good, it won't matter. I learned the hard way. Waste of time and a lot of money.

FYI Alan passed away this Saturday. I will be scheduling a fit with Ben when I see him. I have a couple of obligations but asked him many questions and am interested.
