Drive or hire a car to LaGuardia Airport
I have to escort my elderly Mom to South Carolina for two nights in less than two weeks & I can't decide if I should drive & park at the airport or hire a car. She lives in Yonkers. I know the airports near me, Manchester NH & Logan in Boston, no problem driving & parking at those.
Anyone here use LaGuardia airport regularly & can provide some tips? We're using Spirit Airlines terminal B, I believe, if that matters.

Bike Friday Tandem,
Then break it down, put it in your luggage, and take it with you.

Hire a car.
Note that due to construction, the airports a bloody mess to get to/from. Normally I'd say get a flight from JFK or Westchester.
Definitely do so research on line and leave a lot of time.

We take public transport from CT. Yonkers looks like it is 16 miles from the airport. Virtually, all of our friends drive their car to the airport. I believe they go online and look for a nearby parking lot with a shuttle. I do not have a recommendation for you but I would go online and take a look at nearby parking. As said earlier, the airport is a bit of a mess with the construction.

Depends on how long you'll be away.
My preferred way for airport runs from Westchester is to rent a car one way. I pick it up locally, riding there by bike.
The total cost is less than a hired car, or multi-day parking, and the convenience far greater than than mass transit, which takes almost hours with time lost for connections.
A one way rental can cost about $80.00, and I time it so I have the use of the car the day before, and can have it packed and ready for an early AM flight. I should add that many of my flights are too early to use mass transit which won't be running when I have to leave.
One of the main advantages of using one way rentals is that there's no need to return to the same airport, or even the same city. For example, you can take the train from Boston to New Rochelle, pick up a car at Budget at the station, drive the 10 miles or so to Yonkers, spend time with Mom, then drive to the airport. Then fly from NC straight home to Boston.

If you already have your own car then make a reservation at one of the nearby off airport lots. They offer free drop off and pick up at the airport. If only for 2 days it will be cheaper than renting a car, and sometimes even cheaper than round trip by taxi. Be aware that LGA is a construction mess right now so allow plenty of extra time for your departing flight. On the return it wont matter other than the annoyance factor.

Just for the record, here's the public transit way to get from Yonkers to LGA.
1. Take Metro North from the Yonkers station to 125th St (2 trains/hr 15-25 min travel time)
2. Take the M60 bus from 125th St to LGA. (every 7-10 minutes 35 min travel time)

my cousin recently took the same trip, from LaGuardia, to see my Aunt, his Mom. his checked bags didn't make it to the destination airport & his car rental was missing too ... too funny, but not actually
thanks again for all the suggestions, FYI - my Aunt canceled my Mom's trip, so we're not going. she was sad but relieved cuz she gets exhausted running just a cpl errands. this trip would have been stressful for her, she's 87, that's why I was escorting her. at least canceling everything wasn't too bad. Spirit Airlines wound up keeping $280 of the $1,000. so that stinks, but Booking.com was great canceling the hotel, & AAA rental w/ Hertz kept $50. who knows tho, my Aunt & Mom might change their minds over the next cpl of months ...
