Syracuse area 2-day route suggestions?
Howdy-
Picking up someone from the Syracuse airport late Tuesday. Riding pal is suggesting we do a Monday-Tuesday overnight ride in the area- an out-and-back or loop, 50 or so miles each day. Hotel/air-B-n-B it somewhere for the night. Neither of us are very familiar with the area- we're from down near the Catskills. I know the Empire Trail runs through Syracuse, so there's always that option, though TBH it looks like it might be a little boring around there. Any suggestions?

Off the canal I'd look for a ride that'll take you around Skaneateles lake or ride up to Sackett's Harbor. Not sure where exactly you're leaving from but for Sackett's I'd hop over to rt3 which is more scenic and less annoying than rt11 but more like 65miles. Otherwise I'd just ride to Rome along the canal, the scenery does change, there's some interesting things along the way, and you can check out the restored Revolutionary war fort in Rome which is free to enter.

Followup/debrief...
We ended up parking near the Montezuma refuge, biking down the east side of Cayuga Lake, overnighting in Ithaca and then up the west side of the lake. Ended up being something like 55mi the first day and 65 the second. East side of the lake was nice, with Union Springs and Aurora providing pretty spots to stop for a break/snack. The west side.... not so much. Very little shoulder, lots of traffic (except for the stretches where there small, right on the lake alternatives that weren't dead ends. Not really anywhere to stop, except maybe the vineyards, but most of them seemed closed (maybe because it was a Tuesday). Anyway, glad I did it, but not a route I feel I'll ever be compelled to do again.
